The life data of Agostino Belloli can not be determined exactly. In the 1st half of the 19th century he worked in Milan as 1st hornist on the Theatre della Scala and as a teacher at the Conservatoire. There were probably relations to Luigi Belloli (1770-1817) who also worked at the Scala of Milan and was teacher at the Conservatoire.
1st & 2nd Horn Quartet + Piccolo Quartetto
The Robert Ostermeyer Music Edition thanks the library of the Conservatorio del Milano, the owner of the manuscripts, for the permission to publish this work as the first edition. For the first time, there are the etudes and the quartets for four horns published at the same time. The literature for four horns is very extensive. However, really original compositions from the beginning of the 19th century are missing. They were probably played on natural horns. These very virtuosi quartets were well-known as a quiet tip among the horn players, often even by not naming the source. There is one inscription on the music sheet of the first horn of the 2nd quartet which says "buonissimo!!"
Both quartets together with the Piccolo Quartetto are published in one volume in score and parts.
