Concerto a 5 for Horn, 2 Violins, Viola and Basso continuo
The concerto on hand is property of the music collection of the Library Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in Schwerin with the signature Mus 342 and dates from the time at 1750.
It is available without a cover or title page, so we do not know the composer. One possibility is to combine the present concerto with the concerto by Friedrich Wilhelm Riedt (ROM 11), which is in 1 movement and has similarities to the present 2 movements of this concerto.
A parallel between both concertos is the use of "pedal" tones in the bass range, which are difficult to play on the natural horn. Both works may also have been written for a special soloist. In the literature, horn players are mentioned who are said to have mastered the pedal tones, but this was always an exception worth mentioning!
