Vedasto Vecchietti
Concerto in Fa for Horn
Vedasto Vecchietti was born in 1842 in Pollenza near Macerata in Italy. Early on, he showed his talent for the horn. In 1862 he is said to have played the first horn in an Athenian orchestra. After completing his studies at Bucchi in Tolentino, he went on a concert tour. In 1867 Rossini heard him in Paris together with the clarinettist Liverani.
In 1869 he came to Rome and took a job in the theater Apollo. In 1877 he played in Liceo S. Cecilia in Rome his exam and then became a teacher of brass instruments.
On 18 December 1922 Vecchietti died in Rome.
Vecchietti composed works for Horn, including etudes, chamber music, a horn school and concerts for horn. The present concerto was published around 1880 as "Concerto in Fa in Tre Tempi per Corno a Macchina or Oboe with Accompaniment to Pianoforte" Vecchietti is entitled "Primo Corno dell 'Orchestra primaria di Roma e Professore insegnate per gli instrumenti d' ottone a Liceo della R. Accademai di S. Cecilia ".
He dedicated this concert to his pupil and friend Giulio Mamayra.
It was printed on behalf of and commissioned by Luigi Sciabilli in Florence.
For this concert, only the piano version could be found, it is unclear whether an orchestral version was ever composed. The oboe part mentioned in the title could just as little be proved.
