Piccola Fantasia for horn and orchestra based on themes by Gaetano Donizetti
- first printing -
The title of the work presented here for the first time in print is in the autograph score Piccola Fantasia | Per | Corno da Caccia | Sui motivi del Maest-ro Donizetti | Tue | Nicola de Domenico | Collegio, left 15 Mag-gio 1866
It is kept in the Biblioteca del Conserva-torio di musica San Pietro a Majella in Naples.
Unfortunately, no biographical information could be determined about the composer and horn player Nicolo de Domenico.
From the same source two compositions by Alfonso Schettino have already been published here, ROM 392 a fantasy for horn and orchestra based on Mercadante themes and ROM 391 based on themes from Verdi's masked ball, also by Alfonso Schettino. These two compositions were created around 1864, two years before Domenico's imagination.
Apparently such fantasies were popular in Naples during this period, especially for auditions.
