About the composer and pianist Jaroslav Kofroň Unfortunately, very little is mentioned in the relevant Dictionaries of Music. He is best known to the world through his horn "Sonatina per Lesni a raw klavír" which first appeared in 1952. Today it is an integral part of the repertoire of horn players. Be here in the first edition edited Concertino for horn, which was created in 1960, is largely unknown. Unfortunately and wrongly!
Kofroň was born on 5. 2. 1921 in Vletice, south of Prague. He studied at the educational institution in Pribam. There played in the local philharmonic orchestra horn. Later studied at the Prague Conservatory in the subjects of horn at Emanuel Kaucký, music theory with Anthony Modra and choir singing with Vojtěcha Borivoje Aim. In 1948, he became a teacher at the Prague Conservatory, but continued to study in composition with Jaroslav Řídký and conducting, where his teacher Franz Spilka was.
During his studies he played in the orchestra of the Prague operetta and in a Prague Big Band. 1949-1950 he led the chorus of the Prague teachers. Since 1952 he was a member of the Chamber Music Association of Professors of Prague Conservatory. 1953 - 1954 he was choirmaster and conductor of the Prague 2. Opera.
Kofroň composed, among other works for horn, songs, vaudeville music, dance music and choral arrangements. He collected folk songs from the region of Central Slovakia. His collection includes over 300 songs. He has authored several textbooks, as, for example, Učebnice harmony (harmony). Praha, Supraphon, 1968 Učebnice intonace a rytmu (intonation and rhythm). Jaroslav Kofroň died on 22 July 1966 of a heart attack during a holiday in Bulgaria.
