Clapisson worked as solo horn player at the Theater San Carlo in Naples until early 1816. Gioachino Rossini planned his opera "Otello" for 1816, but the theater burned down at the beginning of 1816 and it was not until October that the opera premiered in Naples. Rossini and Clapisson must have known each other and Clapisson later composed his Op. 63 Fantasy for horn (or violin) on themes from that opera.
